The QR code can be generated directly in your browser, meaning your Wi-Fi information does not need to be uploaded to our server simply for the generator to do its job.
In other words, we don't need to keep a database full of people's Wi-Fi passwords to provide this service. The information you enter is used to create the QR code, and the Wi-Fi details are encoded directly into that QR code. You can then download it, print it, display it, or share it however you like. It's a small technical decision, but an important one: the less sensitive information a service needs to collect, the better.
Static means no magic tricks behind the scenes
Wifi QR creates static QR codes. That means the Wi-Fi information is encoded directly into the QR code rather than relying on a link that has to travel through our servers every time someone scans it. There is no subscription waiting behind your QR code and no requirement for our service to stay online just so the code can reveal the information it already contains.
If your Wi-Fi details stay the same, your QR code can keep doing its job. Put it on a sign today and it can still be useful months from now. Of course, if you change the network password or other Wi-Fi settings, the old code will still contain the old information — in that case, simply create a new one. Nothing complicated there either.
